From the PCB top surface to the top of the plastic body, so it is the number you use for lid clearance. The solder tails extend below the board. If you have a 15mm internal height and a 1.6mm board, you have 1.4mm of clearance above the jack, which is enough for a thin foam pad but not for a light pipe housing. Does the integrated magnetics support 100m Cat5e at 1000Base-T in a noisy environment?

Yes, that is the design case. The integrated transformer has 1CT:1CT turns ratio and the common mode rejection is good enough for 100m Cat5e in an industrial cabinet. Two things matter. Keep the cable pairs matched to 100 ohm and do not untwist more than 13mm at the plug. If you are next to a VFD or a servo drive, add a common mode choke on the cable side, the jack alone will not fix a badly routed cable.

What LED drive current do the green and yellow LEDs need?

Both LEDs are rated for 20mA nominal and will work from 5mA up. At 10mA you get good visibility through a 3mm light pipe and less heat. Use a 330 ohm series resistor from 3.3V for about 6mA, or 150 ohm for 12mA if your panel is thick. Do not exceed 30mA continuous, and note the green and yellow have slightly different forward voltages, so do not share one resistor between them.

Our chassis is anodised aluminium. How do we bond the EMI tabs reliably?

Anodising is an insulator, so the tabs must land on a masked area or on a separate ground pad. Mask a 4mm by 10mm window under each side of the shield and keep the anodise off it. Then check continuity from the shield to the chassis screw, target under 1 ohm. If you cannot mask, add a conductive foam gasket between the shield and the chassis, but that costs more than masking.

What is the difference between the BST circuit version and a plain transformer jack?

The BST circuit adds a small network across the centre taps that improves common mode balance and reduces emissions at 1G. It also helps with the return loss at the low end. For a 1000Base-T port near a switching regulator we recommend the BST version, it usually saves you a common mode choke. For a 10/100 port the plain version is enough.

Can this jack be used on a PoE port if we only pass 15W?

No. This is a non PoE part, the centre taps are not rated for the current and the magnetics are not designed for the DC bias. For 802.3af at 15W you need a PoE rated jack with a suitable transformer, usually a 1CT:1CT with a larger core and thicker wire. Passing PoE through this part will heat the winding and eventually open it, and it will not be covered by warranty.

Ran 500 hours at 60℃ with continuous 1G traffic. No link drops, no LED flicker. The magnetics do not run hot, maybe 8℃ above ambient. We also did 200 cable insertions during the run, and the retention force at the end was 7.2N, only 0.8N below a new part. Good enough for a port that gets repatched monthly.
