You need duplex LC (two fibers, usually in a single clip). A simplex cord will not work because the XBR-000212 module has separate TX and RX ports.

My link is only working at 50m on OM3 - is that normal?

70m is the spec. Check your patch cords for damage, dirty connectors, or excessive bends.

What happens if I plug it into single-mode fiber by mistake?

The link may not come up, or signal will be very weak. Always use OM3 or OM4 multi-mode fiber.
